Target Information
The gene encoding PCDHA5 is a member of the protocadherin alpha gene cluster, one of three related gene clusters tandemly linked on chromosome 5. These clusters have a genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. The alpha cluster consists of 15 cadherin superfamily genes, including 13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related coding sequences.
PCDHA5 is a single-pass type I membrane protein containing six cadherin domains and functions as a potential calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein, possibly involved in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal connections in the brain.
