Target Information
The PCDHA12 gene belongs to the protocadherin alpha gene cluster, one of three related clusters on chromosome 5 that exhibit a genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters.
This cluster consists of 15 cadherin superfamily genes, including 13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related coding sequences.
Each gene has a large N-terminal exon encoding six cadherin ectodomains and shared downstream C-terminal exons encoding the cytoplasmic domain.
These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins are integral membrane proteins likely involved in establishing specific cell-cell connections in the brain.
Alternative splicing has been observed, and additional variants may exist.
