Target Information
CD204 gene encodes the class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three types (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in various physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
Type 1 and 2 isoforms mediate endocytosis of modified low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), while type 3 does not internalize modified LDL due to altered intracellular processing, remaining trapped in the endoplasmic reticulum. Type 3 can inhibit the function of types 1 and 2, suggesting a regulatory mechanism for scavenger receptor activity in macrophages.
Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
