Target Information
The protein encoded by RAB27A belongs to the small GTPase superfamily, Rab family. It is a membrane-bound protein involved in protein transport and small GTPase-mediated signal transduction. Mutations in this gene are associated with Griscelli syndrome type 2. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus, resulting in four transcript variants encoding the same protein. RAB27A plays a crucial role in cytotoxic granule exocytosis in lymphocytes and is required for both granule maturation and granule docking/priming at the immunologic synapse.
