Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble, cross-linked polymer. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling and is also found as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules that form domains for interactions with fibronectin itself, other matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell receptors (e.g., integrins). It plays a key role in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Increased fibronectin expression is associated with non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and conferring resistance to chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. The fibronectin gene undergoes alternative splicing, potentially generating up to 20 transcript variants.
