Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상교세포 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현되며, 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 매우 유용하며, astrocytic 세포에서 유래된 다양한 뇌종양에서도 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocytes와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발합니다.
GFAP 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 형태의 isoform을 생성합니다.
