Target Information
PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways. It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT). PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and tumor prognosis, being expressed in early G1 and S phases. Located in the nucleus, PCNA acts as a homotrimeric cofactor for DNA polymerase delta, enhancing replication efficiency. Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in the RAD6-dependent repair pathway. Two transcript variants encode the same protein, with pseudogenes found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
