CD31 (PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor that regulates T and B cell signaling via ITIM motifs phosphorylated by associated kinases, providing docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
It is expressed throughout the vascular system, mainly at intercellular junctions. The N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
