MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase는 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade에서 작용하는 dual-specificity protein kinase로, 세포 성장과 분화를 조절합니다. 다양한 성장 인자와 cytokine, 막 탈분극 및 칼슘 유입에 의해 활성화됩니다. MEK1은 Raf1에 의해 Ser218 및 Ser222 잔기의 인산화로 활성화되며, 스트레스 반응, apoptosis, cytokine에 의한 증식 유도 신호전달에 관여합니다. 유전자 변이는 cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome을 유발할 수 있습니다.
