Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. This protein promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic activity is regulated through phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
