H2AX는 히스톤 H2A 단백질 패밀리의 변이체로, 뉴클레오좀의 히스톤 옥타머 구성 요소입니다.
H2AX는 PI3K 경로의 ATM 및 ATR과 같은 키나아제에 의해 인산화되어 γ-H2AX 형태로 전환됩니다.
γ-H2AX는 DNA 이중가닥 절단(DSB) 부위에서 DNA 복구 단백질을 모집하고 위치시키는 첫 단계로 작용합니다.
이러한 γ-H2AX 포커스는 DSB를 1:1로 나타내므로 DNA 손상의 바이오마커로 활용될 수 있습니다.
