Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the AAA ATPase family, involved in diverse cellular activities. The PEX1 protein is cytoplasmic but often anchored to the peroxisomal membrane, forming a heteromeric complex that aids in protein import into peroxisomes and peroxisome biogenesis.
Mutations in this gene are associated with peroxisomal disorders such as:

• Neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy
• Infantile Refsum disease
• Zellweger syndrome

Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene.
