Target Information
PEX1 encodes a member of the AAA ATPase family, involved in diverse cellular activities. This cytoplasmic protein is often anchored to the peroxisomal membrane, forming a heteromeric complex that assists in protein import into peroxisomes and peroxisome biogenesis.
Mutations in PEX1 are linked to complementation group 1 peroxisomal disorders such as neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, infantile Refsum disease, and Zellweger syndrome.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene.
