Target Information
RET is a receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the cadherin superfamily. It plays an essential role in neural crest development and can undergo oncogenic activation through cytogenetic rearrangement. RET mediates signals for cell growth and differentiation.
Mutations in the RET gene are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia types IIA and IIB, Hirschsprung disease, and medullary thyroid carcinoma. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, with additional variants described but not biologically confirmed.
