Target Information

This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that enables cells to initiate the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as the high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, forming a complex that catalyzes the initiation of protease cascades through specific limited proteolysis. Unlike other cofactors circulating as nonfunctional precursors, this factor is fully functional when expressed on cell surfaces. It contains three distinct domains: extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic. Notably, no congenital deficiency has been described for this protein within the coagulation pathway.
