Target Information
UCN2 (Urocortin 2) is a protein-coding gene associated with Body Mass Index Quantitative Trait Locus 11. It is involved in signaling pathways such as GPCR signaling and presynaptic function of Kainate receptors. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations include signaling receptor binding and G protein-coupled receptor binding. A paralog of this gene is UCN3.
UCN2 belongs to the sauvagine/corticotropin-releasing factor/urotensin I family and is structurally related to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene. The encoded protein acts as an endogenous ligand for CRF type 2 receptors and may influence stress-related appetite regulation in the brain. Despite name similarity, it has no sequence similarity to urotensin II.
