The antibody was raised against recombinant EBNA-1.
Target Information
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human herpes virus associated with conditions such as Hodgkin’s disease and Burkitt’s lymphoma, and is the causative agent of mononucleosis in adolescents.
EBV latently infects B lymphocytes, which express EBV nuclear antigens and latent proteins LMP1, LMP2A, and LMP2B.
LMP2A aggregates in the plasma membrane of B lymphocytes, functioning as a negative regulator of Src and Syk protein tyrosine kinases.
Studies show that LMP2A blocks B-cell receptor (BCR) signal transduction in EBV-immortalized B cells and may maintain latent EBV infection in peripheral blood B cells.
EBNA-1 is the only viral protein consistently expressed in all malignancies associated with EBV.
