Product Specific Information
MA1-06311 detects alphaT-catenin in human samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry, and immunocytochemistry.
By Western blotting, it detects a ~300 kDa protein representing alphaT-catenin.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues C V(164) A N K S D L Q K T Y Q K L(177) of the human T-catenin protein with an N-terminal cysteine, coupled to KLH.
Target Information
Catenins are proteins that link cadherin/beta-catenin cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton.
Although originally discovered in testis, alphaT-catenin is expressed in other tissues, with the highest levels observed in the heart.
Immunohistochemical analysis shows alphaT-catenin localized at intercalated discs of cardiomyocytes and in peritubular myoid cells of the testis.
AlphaT-catenin can restore cell-cell adhesion in colon cancer cells lacking alpha-catenins, indicating its role in forming specific cell-cell contacts in muscle cells.
The encoded protein has a predicted size (~100 kDa) similar to other alpha-catenins, with 57% amino acid identity.
In transfected cells, coimmunoprecipitation shows interaction with alpha-catenin.
The 892_24D2S antibody does not cross-react with alphaE-catenin or alphaN-catenin in Western blot analysis.
