Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic four polypeptide chain structure composed of two heavy chains (five types) and two light chains (kappa, lambda; both ~22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda light chains each contain a variable and constant region, distinguishable by their antigenic properties.
The kappa to lambda ratio is typically 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
