Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The HARS gene encodes a cytoplasmic class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase responsible for histidyl-tRNA synthesis, essential for histidine incorporation into proteins. Located on chromosome 5, it is arranged head-to-head with HARSL, sharing a bidirectional promoter. The gene product is a frequent target of autoantibodies in polymyositis/dermatomyositis.
