Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the alcohol dehydrogenase family, which metabolizes a variety of substrates including ethanol, retinol, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. It forms homo- and heterodimers of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits, exhibiting high activity for ethanol oxidation and playing a major role in ethanol catabolism. The genes encoding these subunits are organized as a tandem gene cluster.
