Product Specific Information
In Western blots, this antibody shows less than 4% cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) CCL3/MIP-1 alpha and does not cross-react with recombinant mouse (rm) CCL3/MIP-1 alpha, rmCCL4/MIP-1 beta, rhCXCL8/IL-8, rhCCL5, rhCXCL1, rhCXCL2, or rhCXCL3.
Target Information
CCL4 (macrophage inflammatory protein 1-beta, MIP1B) belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family. It is involved in chemotactic and proinflammatory responses and plays a role in immune homeostasis. CCL4 is produced by macrophages, lymphocytes, and dendritic cells in response to bacterial endotoxins, recruiting various inflammatory cells to sites of infection.
Both CCL4 and CCL3 regulate trafficking and activation of specific immune cell subsets. While both affect monocytes similarly, CCL4 selectively attracts CD4+ lymphocytes, whereas CCL3 attracts CD8+ lymphocytes. CCL4 also acts as a chemoattractant for B cells, eosinophils, and dendritic cells. The processed form of CCL4 can down-modulate CCR5 receptor expression, inhibiting CCR5-mediated HIV-1 entry into T cells. CCL4 binds with high affinity to CCR5 receptors.
