Target Information
Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate processes such as differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and cytoskeletal organization.
There are at least 12 PKC isoforms identified in humans (α, βI, βII, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, λ, μ), each differing in structure, localization, and response to signals.
PKC βII, for example, is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
