Target Information

Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It contributes to the biogenesis of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating vesicle transport, and preventing MAP4 binding to tubulin.
It is essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the midplane of the mitotic spindle to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores and ensure chromosome congression. During anaphase, Septin 2 may be required for chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. It also plays roles in ciliogenesis and collective cell movement.
