Product Specific Information
This antibody is predicted to react with bovine, canine, human, and non-human primate based on 100% sequence homology.
It is specific for the ~51 kDa alpha1-subunit of the GABAA Receptor in Western blots of rat brain.
Target Information
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, causing hyperpolarization of the membrane through the opening of a Cl⁻ channel associated with the GABAA receptor (GABAA-R) subtype.
GABAA-Rs are important therapeutic targets for sedative, anxiolytic, and hypnotic agents and are implicated in diseases such as epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
The GABAA-R is a multimeric subunit complex consisting of six alpha, four beta, and four gamma subunits, including splice variants. Expression of alpha- and beta-subunits results in functional GABAA-R sensitive to GABA, while coexpression of gamma-subunits is required for benzodiazepine modulation.
Different alpha-subunits mediate varying benzodiazepine effects, and phosphorylation of beta-subunits modulates receptor function.
