Target Information

Heat shock transcription factors (HSF1 and HSF2) regulate heat shock gene expression in eukaryotic cells.

• HSF1 and HSF2 are upregulated by estrogen at both mRNA and protein levels.
• HSF1 normally exists as a monomer with repressed transcriptional activity due to phosphorylation; upon activation, it forms trimers, binds DNA, and translocates to the nucleus.
• HSF2 is associated with differentiation and development and also binds DNA as a trimer.
• Both HSF1 and HSF2 can be induced by proteasome inhibitors of the ubiquitin pathway.
