Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular ligand-binding signals into intracellular G protein activation. This signaling mechanism is conserved across eukaryotes and mediates environmental sensing and cell-cell communication.
All GPRs have seven membrane-spanning domains, and their extracellular regions may be glycosylated. Two conserved cysteine residues form disulfide bonds that stabilize the receptor structure.
GPR103 is a 455-amino-acid protein primarily expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, it is expressed in the heart, kidney, and testis, and may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
