Product Specific Information

Antibody detects endogenous levels of ATF1 only when phosphorylated at Ser198.

Target Information

This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates expression of downstream target genes involved in growth, survival, and other cellular processes. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 in its kinase-inducible domain by several serine/threonine kinases, including cAMP-dependent protein kinase A, calmodulin-dependent kinase I/II, mitogen- and stress-activated kinase, and cyclin-dependent kinase 3 (cdk-3). Phosphorylation enhances its transactivation and transcriptional activities, promoting cell transformation. Gene fusions with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generate chimeric proteins implicated in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
