PerCP conjugates are excited by the 488 nm line of the argon-ion laser and have a large Stokes shift, providing minimal spectral overlap into the R-PE (phycoerythrin) channel.

Target Information

CD2 (LFA-2) is a monomeric surface antigen (MW range 45–58 kDa) of the human T-lymphocyte lineage expressed on all peripheral blood T cells. It is one of the earliest T-cell markers, present on more than 95% of thymocytes, and found on some natural killer cells but not on B lymphocytes.
Monoclonal antibodies against CD2 inhibit the formation of rosettes with sheep erythrocytes, indicating that CD2 functions as or associates with the erythrocyte receptor.
The interaction between CD2 and CD58 stabilizes adhesion between T cells and antigen-presenting or target cells. Although their affinity in solution is low, cell-cell interface interactions compensate to ensure tight adhesion.
T cell activation increases CD2 expression and lateral mobility, facilitating contact with CD58 and strengthening intercellular adhesion. CD2 deficiency reduces intestinal inflammation and aids infection control.
Diseases associated with CD2 dysfunction include penile squamous cell carcinoma and immune deficiency due to thymic absence.
