This antibody detects endogenous levels of Occludin only when phosphorylated at Tyr287.


Target Information

Occludin is a 65 kDa protein that can exist in various phosphorylated forms, up to approximately 82 kDa. It plays a role in regulating both the localization and function of tight junctions. Polyunsaturated fatty acids up-regulate occludin expression, enhancing transendothelial resistance and reducing macromolecular permeability. Expression levels vary by tissue — high and continuous in brain cell junctions, lower and discontinuous in non-neural tissues. Structural features of occludin are highly conserved across species. Under-expression of occludin and other tight junction proteins contributes to increased permeability in tumor endothelial junctions, associated with brain tumor edema.
