Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif, are putative RNA helicases involved in various RNA-related processes such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some members of this family are implicated in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. The DDX10 gene encodes a DEAD box protein that may participate in ribosome assembly. Fusion of this gene with the nucleoporin gene NUP98 by chromosome translocation (inversion 11, p15q22) has been observed in patients with de novo or therapy-related myeloid malignancies.
