Target Information
SNF1LK2 (QIK) is a serine/threonine kinase and a salt-inducible kinase belonging to the AMP-activated protein kinase family.
It negatively regulates CRE-binding protein (CREB) activity by phosphorylating the CREB-specific coactivator TORC.
SIK2 is involved in signaling cascades regulating insulin-induced genes such as PGC-1α and UCP-1 in brown adipocytes, which are linked to obesity and insulin resistance.
Additionally, SIK2 acts as a key regulator for neuronal survival after ischemia by suppressing CREB-mediated gene expression following oxygen-glucose deprivation.
