Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported:
- Receptor-type PTP: Short extracellular domain, single transmembrane region, two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains
- Nonreceptor-type PTP: Distinct hydrophilic N-terminus
Studies in mice suggest regulatory roles in RAS-related signal transduction, cytokine-induced STAT signaling, and activation of voltage-gated K⁺ channels.
