Target Information
Machado-Joseph disease (MJD), also known as spinocerebellar ataxia-3, is an autosomal dominant neurologic disorder caused by expansion of (CAG)n repeats in the Ataxin-3 gene. The MJD protein interacts with transcriptional regulators (CBP, p300, PCAF) and functions as a histone-binding and deubiquitinating enzyme. The number of CAG repeats inversely correlates with disease onset age.
