Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core consists of four rings with 28 subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal process.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
PSMD2 encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S lid and may participate in the TNF signaling pathway through interaction with TNF receptor type 1.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 1.
