Target Information

Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) is a type A (acidic) low molecular weight keratin that pairs with cytokeratin 8.
It is expressed in epithelial tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as in endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells.
Cytokeratin 18 is typically found in non-squamous epithelia and is expressed in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas.
Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18.
Mutations in KRT18 are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are widely used for distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in tumor differential diagnosis, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
