Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
CD21 (Complement Receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments that remain attached to antigen surfaces.
It plays critical roles in:
- Uptake and retention of immune complexes
- Survival of memory B cells
- Development and maintenance of humoral responses
CD21 also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and participates in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells.
A soluble form (sCD21) retains ligand-binding ability.
CD21 interacts with CD23, CD19, CD81, and Leu13, forming a signal-transduction complex for B cell activation.
Genetic variations in CD21 are associated with systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9).
Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.
