Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are genetically heterogeneous autosomal recessive diseases characterized by multiple defects in peroxisome function.
These disorders involve at least 14 complementation groups, with varying phenotypes across groups.
Cells from all PBD patients exhibit defects in the import of one or more classes of peroxisomal matrix proteins into the organelle.
