Target Information

Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase.
This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho.
Active RhoA interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS), modulating phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC).
Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-bound RhoA, phosphorylates MBS and inactivates myosin phosphatase.
Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA in NIH 3T3 cells increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC, indicating that Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase via Rho-kinase.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
