Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is a polymerase delta auxiliary protein essential for DNA replication and repair. It interacts with CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT). PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and tumor prognosis, being expressed during early G1 and S phases. Located in the nucleus, PCNA functions as a homotrimer that enhances DNA polymerase delta activity during replication. Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encode the same protein, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
