Target Information

Voltage-sensitive calcium channels (VSCC) mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and participate in various calcium-dependent processes including muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, division, and death.
The alpha-1G isoform gives rise to T-type calcium currents, belonging to the low-voltage activated (LVA) group, and is strongly blocked by mibefradil.
T-type channels open at negative potentials and show voltage-dependent inactivation. They serve pacemaking functions in neurons and cardiac nodal cells, supporting calcium signaling in secretory and vascular smooth muscle cells.
These channels are involved in neuronal firing pattern modulation and cell growth regulation.
There are 2 isoforms of CACNA1H and 14 isoforms of CACNA1G produced by alternative splicing.
