Target Information
Cardiac Troponin I (TnI, Troponin I, Cardiac-specific troponin I) is an integral inhibitory protein in cardiac muscle forming a complex with troponin C (TnC) and troponin T (TnT). It binds to actin within muscle thin filaments and regulates muscle contraction through calcium binding to TnC. Measurement of TnI and TnT in blood is a key diagnostic indicator of cardiac damage, useful in differentiating angina and myocardial infarction. Additionally, Cardiac Troponin I inhibits angiogenesis and mutations in its gene are linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (CMH7) and restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM).
