Antibody detects endogenous levels of total HBP1.

Target Information

The HMG-box protein-1 (HBP1) is a member of the HMG family of transcription factors, characterized by the presence of a conserved high mobility group (HMG) 1 box that mediates DNA binding.
HBP1 binds to tumor suppressor proteins Rb and p130 and initiates cell cycle arrest. Terminal cell differentiation requires this initial cell cycle arrest followed by expression of tissue-specific marker genes.
Continued HBP1 activity suppresses tissue-specific gene expression by associating with MyoD proteins. In muscle cell differentiation, MyoD family transcription factors (Myf5, MyoD, myogenein) induce expression of cell-type specific proteins and contribute to phenotype development.
The progression of terminal differentiation depends on decreased HBP1 activity and activation of MyoD-induced gene transcription.
