Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins specific to neurons, composed mainly of NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. These proteins play a crucial role in maintaining neuronal caliber. Expression of neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. NF-H is particularly important in mature axons and has been implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
