Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two main parts: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

• 20S core: 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
• 19S regulator: consists of a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
  Proteasomes are highly concentrated in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage.
  The immunoproteasome is essential for processing class I MHC peptides.
  PSMC4 encodes one of the ATPase subunits, belonging to the triple-A family of ATPases with chaperone-like activity. This subunit interacts with nuclear hormone receptors and gankyrin, a liver oncoprotein. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
