Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antiserum is directed against human Cox-2. Two different isoforms of the enzyme are known, Cox-1 and Cox-2. A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with Cox-2 in human, mouse, and rat based on homology with the immunizing sequence, and it should not cross-react with Cox-1. Reactivity with Cox-2 from other species is unknown.

Target Information

COX2 converts arachidonate to prostaglandin H2 (PGH2), a key step in prostanoid synthesis, including inflammatory prostaglandins.
The conversion involves two steps:

1. Cyclooxygenase (COX) reaction converting arachidonate to prostaglandin G2 (PGG2)
2. Peroxidase reaction reducing PGG2 to PGH2

COX2 is constitutively expressed in tissues such as endothelium, kidney, and brain, and is up-regulated in pathological conditions like cancer and inflammation.
Up-regulation is associated with increased cell adhesion, resistance to apoptosis, and tumor angiogenesis.
COX2 is inhibited by calcitriol (active Vitamin D) and targeted by NSAIDs such as aspirin, which reduce inflammation-related pain and swelling.
