Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that has been identified as a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex in the nucleus of human cells. It exhibits broad expression and is strongly expressed in many tissues. The gene belongs to a small family encoding related proteins involved in transcriptional regulation, possibly through chromatin remodeling.
The protein is closely related to another family member correlated with the metastatic potential of certain carcinomas. Both share similar domains, including two DNA-binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a methyltransferase-associated domain. One known target protein is p53; deacetylation of p53 is associated with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking this gene family to metastasis.
