Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. It exhibits RNA-independent ATPase activity and is stimulated by both RNA and DNA.
This protein functions in both nucleus and cytoplasm, contributing to transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation is associated with tumorigenesis.
The gene has a paralog on the Y chromosome (DDX3Y), and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and X. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
