Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that transports thyroxine and retinol-binding protein. It is primarily produced in the liver and secreted into plasma. TTR constitutes approximately 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the CNS. It is associated with neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions in senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene are linked to amyloid deposition.
