CYP2C19는 시토크롬 P450 초과가족에 속하는 효소로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 기타 지질 합성에 관여하는 모노옥시게나아제입니다. 이 단백질은 소포체에 위치하며, 항경련제 mephenytoin, omeprazole, diazepam, 일부 barbiturate 등의 대사에 관여합니다.
유전자 다형성은 mephenytoin 대사 능력의 차이와 관련이 있으며, poor metabolizer 및 extensive metabolizer 표현형으로 구분됩니다.
